Our Company
I make sculpted, hand-built, multi-part art candles, mostly poured with 14 layers. I have twenty-four blended scents. Each blended scent has its own unique color pattern. The candles are labor intensive requiring total attention to detail and sculpting ability. The way these candles are created make it impossible to mass produce. Each one is individually poured and sculpted. They are a true labor of love.
I love scent…really, really, really good scent. I love color…really, really, really good color.
I started sculpting and crafting out of raw materials in 1969. I have done so professionally since that time. I was strongly influenced by three great artists: Steve Brown, Paul Gagnon and Dorothy Gates.
I was born in 1950 in California. I made wire jewelry, and progressed to sculpting of stoneware bead jewelry, clay sculptures, pottery and candles. I liked selling my work both retail and wholesale.
I sold on the street in San Francisco in 1971-72. I started doing craft shows including some small weekend renaissance festivals. I hitch-hiked to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1986 to do an art show with my porcelain jewelry. I made $500.00 and was well pleased as I hitch-hiked back to California. I did the Coeur d’Alene show the next 3 years and added other shows in my travels. Fortunately my mode of transportation changed to driving.
Being an avid history buff, I was intrigued with the Renaissance era and the Renaissance style in sculpture; therefore, in the summer of 1980, I traveled to the Colorado Renaissance Festival. I had $20.00 when I arrived at the show. I was pleased that my proceeds amounted to $1500.00, and I fell in love with the idea of renaissance festivals. From 1980 to 2003 I did festivals and juried art shows all over the country.
I met Dorothy Gates at a small show in Gainesville, Florida in 2003. Dorothy was an incredible artist and she taught me a lot about sculpting wax into candles. Now I make candles, sculpt clay and make porcelain jewelry. I love doing it all! I love to work hard every day. All my life my work has been my play, my meditation and my prayers.
I have traveled my whole life doing art shows. I love creating my art; I love doing the shows and I love the people I meet.
